DAY 55 - Advertising Jingle

TITLE: Cherry Blossom
ASSIGNMENT: Write and advertising jingle for something in nature (a tree, a bird, a cloud) Bonus: Make a commercial to go with it!
MATERIALS: Cherry Blossom picture, Photoshop.
INSPIRATION: Tis' the season for Cherry Blossoms, so I chose them for my jingle.  I also wrote mine very contemporary and ends with a spoken addition very quickly.

DAY 54 - Connect The Dots

TITLE: Gypsy Man
ASSIGNMENT: Make something only using dots.  The dots could be stippling from a pen, the circles cut from paper using a hole punch, or even small, round price stickers.
MATERIALS: Ink pen, plain paper.
INSPIRATION: I used to love using points in drawing for years, so this one wasn't a hard choice. I love the effect and control and it also makes you take your time, whether you want to or not.

DAY 53 - Sense of Smell

TITLE: Smell of the Lion
ASSIGNMENT: Make something in which the sense of smell is the essential component.
MATERIALS: Sculpy, acrylic paints
INSPIRATION: Hmmm sense of smell?  Maybe a candle and a specially made candle holder which features a nose of a feline of the wild; a lion? Sure. sounds good.

DAY 52 - Upside Down

TITLE: Old Woman
ASSIGNMENT: Work upside down.  Create something in such a way that you have to rotate it 180 degrees to display/see it when it is finished.
MATERIALS: Plain paper and pencil.
INSPIRATION: Saw her image on the web, wrinkles and attitude, had to draw it.  What is weird, is you have to stop and think HOW to draw things upside down.

DAY 51 - Not Cute But Is Now

TITLE: Skull Doll
ASSIGNMENT: Make something that would not normally be considered cute and cuddly into something that is.
MATERIALS: Plaster skull head, puppet king costume, black socks.
INSPIRATION: Ahhhh, Eddie Munster would have loved this toy!

DAY 50 - Minimalist In White

TITLE: Fire In The Forest of the White.
ASSIGNMENT:  Work only with white materials today.  Try working white on white for a real challenge.
MATERIALS: White printing paper.
INSPIRATION: Trees, forest fires, white.

DAY 49 - Quantity Over Quality

TITLE: Aarrgh!
ASSIGNMENT:  Work with a lot of something.  It could be dried grains from the kitchen, a jar of buttons you have in the closet, or all of your t-shirts.
MATERIALS: Raw popcorn seeds.
INSPIRATION: Pirates and I guess popcorn?

DAY 46 - Face It

TITLE: Face Me!
ASSIGNMENT:  Face it.  What can you do with a face-yours or someone else's?  This doesn't have to be face painting;  you could use food or something else to decorate it, or try molding it into a new shape with hands or tape and documenting it.
MATERIALS: Camera, my own face, PhotoShop.
INSPIRATION: At first I was going to do this to someone else's picture and then I decided, nah, take a shot of my own face and go to town!  Well I did, and it came out sort of King Triton or some lost Lord of the Rings character.

DAY 45 - Tape

TITLE: The Farm
ASSIGNMENT:  Create an image with masking tape or any other kind of tape, for that matter.  Try making it on a nontraditional surface.  Extra credit:  Leave it for others to find.
MATERIALS: Clear scotch tape, watercolors.
INSPIRATION: I have only ever done this type of painting before with tape and it was a Halloween themed composition of gravestones, bats and pumpkins.  This turned out simple and okay.

DAY 44 - Lights Up

TITLE: RoboLight
ASSIGNMENT:  Make something that lights up.  Work with an existing lampshade or put a small electric light or candle inside of something you make.
MATERIALS: Cardboard box, kitchen knife, clamp lamp, scotch tape.
INSPIRATION: I was very inspired to do a robot of some kind and this one kinda of came out very Isaac Asimov don't you think?

DAY 43 - Learn Something New

TITLE: Rabbit Origami
ASSIGNMENT:  Learn something new. Ask a friend to help you do something using a technique or skill they're good at.
MATERIALS: Paper, felt pens.
INSPIRATION: I have little to no interest in learning origami, so I thought I would try it for this assignment.  Well this rabbit took me far longer then it should.  Let's hope origami is not in my future again any time soon.

DAY 42 - Junk Mail

TITLE: Suit of Many Sales
ASSIGNMENT: Turn today;s junk mail into something much more appealing.
MATERIALS: Junk mail, scissors and glue.
INSPIRATION: Nifty Netflix suit huh?  And dig that AT&T tie!  Sorry you can't see the Facebook shirt underneath.

DAY 41 - Think Big

TITLE: Ladybug Ride
ASSIGNMENT: Think big.  Create a large version of something that would normally be much smaller.

MATERIALS:  Sculpy, acrylic paints.
INSPIRATION: And the first thing in my mind was a ladybug!  How can I create a large image of a ladybug?  By having a person riding it like a horse!  And draw an actual sized ladybug beside it.  Wonder how fast they move.

DAY 40 - Yarn

TITLE: Chthulu
ASSIGNMENT: What can you do with yarn?  You don't have to know how to knit or crochet, you can try yarn painting or just experiment.
MATERIALS: Thick yarn strand, watercolors, black ink pen.
INSPIRATION: I always meant to do a painting of Cthulu, but never got the nerve up to try.  Well, this seemed like a good time since I had to paint with think yarn.  I have to say the pattern comes out interesting with the paint, maybe I ought to paint with yarn more often.

TITLE: DIEt Cola Death
ASSIGNMENT:  Write a haiku about something that happens to you today or is in the news today.  Bonus: Illustrate it!

INSPIRATION:  Read the amazing horrid factoid today that if you drink diet soda's daily, it increases your risk of heart attack 45%!!!  How is that for inspiration folks!

DAY 38 - Underwater

TITLE: Underwater Pond
ASSIGNMENT:  Work underwater.  Fill up a large bowl, vase, or old fish tank with water and create something inside of it.
MATERIALS: Plain paper, scissors, small flashlight, Photoshop.
INSPIRATION:  With this one I was trying to create that bushel of lily-pads that seem to just grow upwards towards the surface of the pond.  I added in a couple of frogs and used some angled lighting with the small flashlight, and it's a pond!  Then I tinted it with Photoshop.

DAY 37 - Staples

TITLE: Stapled Shotgun Shack
ASSIGNMENT:  Make something with a stapler.  You can staple things together or, heck, just work with loose staples.  Even the stapler itself can be transformed.
MATERIALS: Plain paper, cardboard pieces, stapler & staples, Robocop's squad car, small flashlight, Photoshop.
INSPIRATION:  Not sure what inspired this one, the end result, not sure whether I created a shotgun shack or a take-out box?

DAY 36 - Some Old Looks Something New

TITLE: ElectroChem! Batteries of the Future!
ASSIGNMENT:  Take something old and make it look new.
MATERIALS: Alkaline batteries (dead), shiny rainbow metallic paper, Photoshop.
INSPIRATION:  At last forget your Energizers and you Duracell batteries, I give you the new battery of the future made from a new chemical power source! ElectroChem! Lasts for months before they require 5 minutes re-charging. Priced slightly higher in Canada.

DAY 35 - Instructions

TITLE: Disaster At Sea
ASSIGNMENT:  Create instructions that others can use to make something and then have someone try it out.
MATERIALS: Paper, Photos, Photoshop
INSPIRATION:  I tried to think of what kind of thing could I possibly make without looking it up, reading how to make it, then make it, then create instructions of my own.  Seemed kinda like cheating in a way.  So, instead I went with something simple, that many people have done, but now I could create the instructions to go with it that anyone who has never heard of this paper trick and follow or show someone else.

Day 34 - Wire

TITLE: Wire Ghost
ASSIGNMENT:  Work with wire.  Thin-gauge wire can easily be bent by hand, so no special tools are required.  You don't even have to buy wire if you have some paper clips handy.
MATERIALS: Coat hanger, photoshop.
INSPIRATION:  Well of course this shape came to mind!  A little bit of globiness in Photoshop and you have the soaring, shimmery ghost! BOO!

Day 33 - Pens

TITLE: Pens
ASSIGNMENT:  Use pens as your material/inspiration today.  Draw with them, use them as construction material, or ...?
MATERIALS: Paper, Drawing Pens, Photoshop (for color)
INSPIRATION:  When doing pen drawings I love to do faces, because they have all kinds of lines and curves, etc.  I took this salty seaman and made him a little older than a  picture of a man I was looking at for guidance.  Aye maties, aye!

DAY 32 - Ephemeral

TITLE: Bust In Butter
ASSIGNMENT:  Make something ephemeral.  Can you create something using a material that will dissipate quickly, like soap bubbles, smoke, butter on a griddle, or cream in coffee?

MATERIALS: Stick of butter, knife.
INSPIRATION:  Man, and I thought the past assignments were tough!  As I went I thought, okay bust, okay maybe a famous classical musician or maybe a bust from the Haunted Mansion at Disneyland.  Turned out pretty good; then I nuked him in the microwave and he melted and went back into the fridge!
